Hi Everyone,
I hope you’re all excited about our show coming up next Thursday. The theme is Escape – Stories of breaking free. I know we’ve all tried to escape something and break free. I hope 8-10 have a story about it! I worked with two tellers this month on their stories and I’m looking forward to hearing everyone else’s.
Here are the rules for telling::

Also, our good friend and MothSLAM-winning storyteller Kent Whipple just announced a great opportunity for folks to share a science story on KUOW’s show The Wild. I pasted the text he sent me below. This is a great chance to meet other tellers and maybe get on the show to share your own story.
KUOW’s The Wild podcast and The Story Collider are partnering for a special Wild Stories storytelling show, Friday, October 27, 2023 live in Seattle. https://www.storycollider.org/submissions
We are looking for genuine stories about your encounters with science, nature, and the wild for our show. These should be personal stories that have a clear beginning, middle, and end where you experience some kind of change. The stories should be around eight to ten minutes long and can be about any topic related to any involving science. We are not looking for lectures, but rather engaging and well-structured stories.
The show theme is “Wild” which can be interpreted in any way you like! Anything from how you first fell in love with nature or biology and how it piqued your curiosity to experiment and explore to how an experience in the wild has affected your personal or working life or something completely different. Really we’re looking for a story with a strong story arc — or a change that takes place in the storyteller from beginning to end.
If you’re interested in sharing a story, please submit your pitch either at storycollider.org/submissions or email stories@storycollider.org by July 27th and include a short (1-2 paragraphs) summary of your story and “The Wild” in the subject line.
If we think it might be a good fit for the show, we’ll get in touch.
This is Paul again. Let me know if any of you get on this show. I’d love to tell all our FGS folks and try to pack the room.
See you Thursday!
Paul
